Here are copies of the two handouts from tonights meeting.  One is a summary of the method for jouranling your quiet times, the other is the reading schedule and meeting schedule.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

Quiet Time Journaling

Start with a new blank book or notebook to journal in.  Leave several pages at the front for a table of contents.

Set aside 30 to 45 minutes for daily reading, quiet time, and reflection.  Give God the best part of your day.

Pray that God would reveal himself to you and speak to you through His word at the beginning of each time.

Method for journaling:

S.O.A.P. =

Scripture – Write out the scripture that speaks to you.   Pick just one short text to focus on each day.

Observation – Take time to carefully think about what the verse is saying, what is its context or the tone of it.  Write out your observations.  It may be only a few sentences or an entire paragraph.

Application – What is this verse teaching you personally and how will you apply it to your life? Take the time to write it down.

Prayer – Write a prayer asking God to help you apply today’s lesson to your life and thanking Him for His word of truth.

After you have finished, take a few minutes to give your entry a title.  Flip back to the front of your journal and enter it in your table of contents.  This will be a huge encouragement to you in later days when you are trying to remember a specific verse or lesson God taught you.

Taken from The Divine Mentor by Wayne Cordeiro.  A very encouraging read!

Reading Schedule

There are 3 reading assignments for each week.  There are two options to choose from.  You may either do an entire reading assignment 3 times during the week, picking just one verse from the Old Testament or New Testament selection, or you could read Old Testament one day and then the New Testament the next, giving you 6 days of quiet times instead of 3.

Catherine has set up a blog site for our group.  I hope that you will visit it often and share what God is showing you throughout the week.  This is a great way to stay connected and receive encouragement, especially on those busy weeks that you are unable to join us.
